KITE HOUSE
DOCKENFIELD – EAST HANTS DC
Kite House is a contemporary home that sits lightly within its rural setting, carefully positioned on a sloping site to capture expansive southwest views while remaining discreet in the landscape.
A sweeping roof defines the architecture, shading generous glazing and creating sheltered outdoor spaces, while the house is embedded into the hillside to harness natural thermal mass. Combined with a highly insulated, airtight envelope, MVHR and low-energy heating, the result is a comfortable, energy-efficient home with exceptionally low running costs.
Clad in sustainable pre-weathered larch, the house will continue to weather naturally into its surroundings.

WBC DESIGN AWARDS JUDGES
The judges considered that it was a wonderfully designed family home that will adapt to the needs of ever-changing family lives. The sequence of connected spaces, coupled with the dramatic light open spaces, gives this modern building a homely feel. The position of the building on the site also takes advantage of the surrounding landscape and views.
