HIGH VIEW
FARNHAM – WAVERLEY BC
This project transformed a modest mid-century bungalow into a contemporary family home that fully embraces its elevated woodland setting. By replacing the original low-pitched roof with a highly insulated flat roof, the design creates generous ceiling heights, expansive glazing and panoramic treetop views throughout the principal living spaces.
Retaining and extending the majority of the original structure, the project demonstrates how thoughtful remodelling can dramatically improve both performance and quality of life while reducing environmental impact. Timber cladding, white render and deep roof overhangs give the house a distinctive contemporary character, with passive solar shading enhancing year-round comfort.
“We couldn’t be happier with Kate’s architectural vision for the conversion of our house. Kate’s ingenuity and creativity at the design stage of our house are something we feel grateful for every day because we absolutely love where we live!”

WBC DESIGN AWARDS JUDGES
The judges thought that the creation of new openings in the roof scape and elevations allowed the natural light to flood the property, creating a calm and relaxed space. The transition from the original building, along with the care taken with the detailing, including the overhanging eaves, was particularly well received.
